librarything

I just have to say, that I am one of those who use librarything and just love it! I put our new books on it and then post it on our website. check us out under new items. www.freemanlibrary.org It is so easy! The customers can than see a cover of the book and even read the blurb. It is great. Another similar program is listal.com. I use this service also because it has a section for DVDs. It is wonderful!!

wrap-up

What I am going to try to do is to take the half hour twice a week that I use for this class, to continue to explore and learn more. Since I already built this time into my schedule it should be a very doable project!

wrap-up

It is absolutely amazing what is out there to be used for our benefits if we just take the time to use them. For example, www.localendar.com is a great place to use a calendar on your web page. It is easily uploaded and easily edited. If only a person had more time to explore and try. This challenge was wonderful because it made me take the time to do just that. Thanks for doing this. I loved it!!

Wikis

Wikis definately have their place. If you don't know how to create a web page wikis would be a good place to start. Also I can see this as a great place for a "what should I read next type of interaction". If you could get patrons to start leaving edits on the book they just read this could be a great asset to your library.

I really enjoyed the clip of what mom says in 24 hours that I had to include this one too.

Delicious

I use delicious for my personal bookmarking system and love it! It's nice that I can access this from any computer. I can see a very practical use for social bookmarking especially working on group projects. Everyone would have access to the same information!

Social Networks

I went through this lesson, but it really didn't wow me. I didn't see a lot that couldn't be done on a blog, am I wrong? Plus, with a blog you don't have to be a member to read somebody's post like facebook. I suppose if I was younger, I probably would "get it".

Podcasting

I am once again trying to get a video onto my blog. I think I finally got it figured out!!

Office 2.0

I have to say that I am impressed with google docs. I can see a lot of uses for this type of program. It will be great just in the office when we work on projects together, that we are all just editing one copy instead of sending everything back and forth. I can see this will be great to add documents to my web page too. For example I made this google doc of our collection development policy:

http://docs.google.com/Doc?id=dcf3f5w5_1c2j8djwr&hl=en

Now I can embedd this in our web page and don't have to recreate the wheel!!

I also like it just for the travel factor, like Colleen said, that way if she forgets her jump drive she still has the documents she needs. Way Cool!!

Podcasting

Well, after spending some time watching videos and listening to stories I thought some possible uses for this would be How-to videos on our web page. This could help patrons to solve some of their FAQ without having to ask. Also I liked the idea of having a story on a podcast, although copyright infringements could be an issue. I found a video on Web 2.0 that I was going to add to this blog, but for the life of me I cannot get it to load. If I get it figured out I may include it at a later time.

More Flickr

It is absolutely amazing what you can do with photos and a computer! I enjoyed making a magazine cover. It could be fun to post that on your blog with articles on all the titles. You could change it monthly or weekly depending on how ambitious you are!

Our New Library

Our New Library
Originally uploaded by lklibrarian1
Well, this was my first adventure into Flickr. It was fairly easy. There are some pretty awsome pictures out there! I set up an account and added a picture of our new library. So if you ever get to Freeman South Dakota be sure to stop in!

RSS feeds

I love the idea of RSS feeds to consolidate all your sites! It really does save time. What I would like to do is to set up an RSS link on my web page, so when we update that, people will be notified immediately. Does anyone know, is that hard to do? I think it would be fun to work this into our book clubs somehow. Or even host a book club online?? I guess the ideas are endless.

This blog was easy to set up, but I had the advantage of setting this up at Institute. I have not used this blog since then, so maybe this will help me get more familar with it and bolder so that I will actually post something!!
After listening to the 71/2 habits of successful learning, for me the easiest habit to implement would be the goal. I I want to learn more about technology I can use to further the library. The hardest item would be the play. I always feel guilty when I sit down and play at work. I know it is needed and accepted, but I still have the guilt.
